Why buying local really matters

- LOCAL LIFE -

We are True Locals. What does it mean for you?

By supporting local businesses, you contribute to a thriving local economy, build meaningful connections, and help reduce your ecological footprint.

While all these reasons are as important as each other, I personally thrive on building connections and finding out the best solutions for my clients and customers. I love having these meaningful discussions and exchanges of ideas and knowledge.

Here are 3 reasons buying from small and local businesses makes sense.

Economic Impact

Local businesses are owned and operated by individuals who live in the same area, and they, in turn, reinvest their profits back into the local economy. This creates a positive cycle of economic development. The word "economy" may sound a little boring, but it is as important now as it's ever been.

Community Connection

When you buy from local businesses, you help foster a sense of community and connection. Local business owners tend to have a personal touch & build customer relationships, providing a more personalised & attentive shopping experience. We simply take the time to understand & cater to individual needs.

Environmental Impact

We have shorter supply chains, which means that our products have only travelled short distances. This leads to lower carbon emissions & less overall environmental impact. When you buy from us, you also support other local makers, artisans, & manufacturers who prioritise sustainable & friendly practices.

DEBUNKING SOME MYTHS

- DESIGN LIFE -

Debunking 3 myths about furniture.

In the realm of furniture, myths often cloud our understanding of materials and care. Let's debunk three prevalent misconceptions about leather, veneers, and polishing.

Leather

The comfort of leather furniture in different weather conditions depends on the quality of the leather and how it is processed.

High-quality leather used in well-crafted furniture is often more breathable than lower-quality alternatives.

Full-aniline and semi-aniline leathers, for example, are more porous and allow air to pass through, making them comfortable to sit on in hot or cold weather. Leather furniture adapts to the room's temperature, so it won't feel excessively hot or cold if the indoor environment is adequately cooled or heated.

Veneer

Veneer furniture can be crafted in high-quality materials, providing a durable alternative to solid wood.

Veneer is a thin layer of real wood applied to a stable core and can last for years. You will need to be a little more careful as any dents cannot be repaired the same way they can on solid timber.

So it is perfectly fine for furniture that generally has less usage, like sideboards, bedside tables or shelving. For dining table, if you know it will be used every day and without a cloth and/or mat to protect it, then you may want to choose solid timber in this case.

Polishing

If furniture polish is used too frequently, it can build up on the surface, leaving a sticky residue that attracts dust and dirt, making the furniture look dull and dirty over time.

Some may contain chemicals that can break down the protective layer, leading to discolouration or dullness.

All you need to do is regularly dust your furniture using a soft, lint-free cloth or a microfibre duster and occasionally use a mild solution of water and a small amount of gentle dish soap on a damp cloth then, wipe it again with a clean, dry cloth to remove any excess moisture.

Designer's Letter

I landed back in Melbourne a couple of days ago and still trying to sort out some of the images I took during Paris Design Week and Maison & Objet. I've had great conversations and met some truly inspiring creators. What I can say right now is that brushed metal seemed present in many of the exhibits and that bouclé fabric, which I thought might have been on its way out, is in fact still going strong in many showrooms I visited.

Take care et a bientôt,
Anne-Claire x

A bedtime story

Pier Queen Bed

Product Highlight: Pier Bed

We use our bedroom to reset and refresh. It's a place where we can shut out the noise and chaos of the outside world and recharge our batteries.

So it was important to design a bed that added a beautiful soft presence to this space. The rounded corners of the bedhead soften its overall appearance, with the pillars keeping it floating above the ground.

While I have taken quite a sculptural approach with this design, it remains classic, ensuring its adaptability in different environments and simply calling you back into a state of relaxation.

Research has shown that the ambiance of a room, including the design and décor, can have a significant impact on our overall sense of well-being, making it important to create a bedroom space that is both functional and visually pleasing.

Constructed from solid timber and available in a variety of finishes or species, the Pier bed is a testament to the beauty of refined craftsmanship and quality.
